Night Hopper Inspired

Jack had been a solitary man for a very very long time. Once he got out of his house he moved to the big city to find work. He thought that would change up his life but not quite. He ended up in a dead end desk job miserable. Since he moved away from all the people he knew he didn't have a lot of friends around him. Also, all the people he worked with were older men so he didn't have a crowd to hang around really. He had one solid friend he'd met in a bar, but that was it. After living there for a few years, he grew awfully lonely. The last time he had a girlfriend was back in his hometown. But the places he went he didn't meet too many women unfortunately. Until finally one day on a day he had off, he was walking through a park by himself. It was getting late and before he went back home he thought he'd take a sit for a moment. He wasn't feeling so great that day and he sat down. That's when his eyes met with a young woman walking towards him. She wasn't just walking in his direction, but he could see that she was coming up to him. He first noticed that she was very pretty, but she looked flustered. She came right up to him and didn't hesitate to ask, "have you seen my dog?" she gasped. Jack stopped, his mouth held open, he wasn't sure what to say. He was shocked at his own attraction to her and scrambled to find something to say that would make her stay.
"Um, yes," he lied quickly. "Or I mean, I saw a dog."
She took a deep breath and stood up straighter, "can you help me, I lost my dog. He's blind in one eye and I'm very worried about him being lost in this huge city."
Jack immediately stood up and took on the hero roll, "of course I can."
In the back of his mind he knew he had to get up early and he probably shouldn't be staying out late. But at the same time he didn't care.
The rest of the evening was spent looking for her dog until the early hours of the morning. They went everywhere looking for the dog, and up and down all the streets. Jack led Jenny on a mad hunt for a dog that didn't even exist to him. He felt sorta bad, but didn't really because it was nice being around her. They talked about themselves and the things they liked and it made him happy. Eventually at around three a.m. the two hadn't gotten anywhere with locating the dog and they were getting pretty tired. Jack suggested they stop into one of his favorite diners to get coffee. When they got in they continued to chat and drink their coffee. That is until Jenny gasped, and pointed out the window. There was a dog sitting on the corner and she exclaimed that it was hers. "See, I told you that we were gonna find him," Jack smiled.

Chinese Exchange Farewell

Dear Crystal,
I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with replying to you regularly. I've been super busy with work and school. We've had a lot of things going on at our school and in my life. Prom and graduation. We've been prepping for graduation and I've been applying for colleges and I got accepted into OTC with a scholarship. I'm feeling very overwhelmed lately, and I've gotten very reflective on my life. Sometimes that is good, sometimes that is bad. But when you reach the end of a chapter, you tend to recap on what happened. I'm pretty glad with how things turned though. I will be moving onto OTC in the fall and I'll spend the summer working and saving money and partying. I'm excited to graduate high school. I can't promise to be consistent with emailing you back if you want to continue this correspondence, however if you'd like to I would try! Have a great summer!

Sincerely, Lynette Fonner

Chinese Letter on Wife Swap

In class we watched a few clips that were also shown to you. These were clips that your teacher showed you in hopes that you could capture some american culture. Some of the things that you saw were probably new to you but since I've lived in America my whole life the things you saw were things that I am very used to. To start off with, I'd like to address some of the things you saw in Wife Swap. To give some back story to my connections with that show, I used to watch that show a ton. Like that was my show not too long ago. Even as someone who is familiar with American culture, I still saw a lot of shocking things on that show. I've seen parents who believed in the unschooling revolution which I found absolutely disgusting, and I'm sure someone who has studied so much to get a better education would agree. It's the idea that children don't need public schools and education and that they can just learn from their surroundings. This family had an eleven year old daughter that couldn't even read. I've also seen families that worshiped fairies, I've seen maniac parents that are too controlling on their children, and many more types of families. It's hard for someone like yourself to watch all this and pinpoint what the typical American is like, and that's because in my mind, there is no typical American. We live in a country where we are free to do what we want and be who we want, no restraints. There's no law saying you can't practice some religion, or that you can't dress a certain. Sure there are things that are frowned upon, but most things are allowed. So you can worship fairies, or keep your kids at home. We have the freedom to be compassionate or be a jerk. There are both types of people in America. This is such a diverse country, American culture really isn't one thing or another, it's a lot of different things. Now to move onto the WWYD videos, you saw a lot of different reactions. But, for the most part, for the people that were nearby and could listen to what was going on, they got involved. That's because in America, we're very encouraged to get involved and try to do good if we can. Even though before hand I talked of diversity, I do think the concept of trying to be helpful is something you see often in America. There are a lot of good people in this country. So I am very proud of our ability to adapt to different situations. I think some of the things I'm not proud of are, the close minded things people do. Like the father being kind of a chauvinist, that wasn't cool. But he did come around. There are also a lot of nutsy people in this country that can take things way out of context. And I think one thing I wish we could improve on is just being better people. Being sweet to your own kind just isn't enough. I wish people would open up more and hold onto less anger. But I do wonder, how do the way these families and people work compared to China?  Do you think people from China would get as involved with the things the Americans were involved in?

We all spend a lot of time as humanity invested in things like, money, power, and love. You hear songs about it, you read books about, these concepts are everywhere. So how do you tie all three of them together and still stay sane and true to yourself and your humanity? I could imagine it would be difficult for someone who didn't have a good conscious to lose sight of what is right and wrong. In our world today money and power are more important than love. Greed is everywhere and a lot of people will do a lot of awful things just to get ahead, even things that are crimes against their fellow man. Politics aren't something a lot of people adore. Politicians are seen as these greedy liars, but in my own belief I think they're not all that way. Despite Donald Trump labeling Barack Obama as a Muslim liar who wants to take over the world, I don't think so. It's cool for me to see him and Michelle bumping it. I just can't believe he is a bad person or wants to do harm to this country. You can tell because of how much he loves his wife. I think for a person to do something as awful as enslave someone, rape them, sell them like they're nothing, deceive them, or try to do harm to them, that is someone that has no love in their heart. So no, I don't believe Obama to be some filthy man who is doing everything he does just to cook the books. He may have money and power, but Obama also has love.

This is a man and his dog lost in the forest.
Far away from all the troubles of the world.
He feels comfortable enough to be around his company.

These are memories captured in time.
A quick shot in a quick moment.
It was an enjoyable moment, being lost.
But it was also fleeting.

This to me is inspiration.
These two are the ultimate power couple.
Linda and Paul Mccartney.

James had been through a lot ever since he was young. His mother died whenever he was ten and he'd been a teenager that would have to struggle to find himself ever since that loss. This long drawn out difficult time spanned throughout the rest of his childhood. That is until he started working at a locally run newspaper. He wrote his own column and he became beloved by his community. For a good decade he stuck to this because he knew he was good at it. Throughout that decade he gained quite a large following and moved to a larger city and began working for a larger paper. He was a bachelor, and he knew that that was another thing he was good at. Everyone loved James and he didn't really know anything else. However towards the end of those ten years the journalism he was getting involved in turned into something that he didn't like. His own personal ideas were being stifled and he was being told what to report on and how to report it. Tensions were high where he was working and he decided to leave his job as a big time news reporter. This sparked a lot of anger from the people he worked with and with his fans. It was a highly talked about subject, why did James leave? He was called selfish, greedy, so many hurtful things. It was odd for after being treated like some sort of a God for ten years to be suddenly almost hated by everyone who once loved him. Any girls he would get involved with anymore were gorgeous but shallow, and all of his friends had disowned him. For the first time in a decade, he was lost again. The big man from the big city had never felt so small. Every morning began with a bottle of whiskey, and that's how every night ended. Although one evening, a friend of his that he still had insisted that he get out again, so he took him to a small jazz club. James loved jazz music. He would listen to it to inspire him when he wrote of course he never listened to it anymore. He never wrote either. In his heart he wanted to but whenever he had tried to the two things brought back the memory of the success he used to have and it was all painful. James was practically dead anymore and his friend knew this, so he took him out. The night started slow and James turned down a lot of girls even though his friend protested greatly. But being the great but not so great James Wilson's pal, he soon became distracted with all the attention he was getting. James sat quietly in a booth, tapping his foot to the smooth jazz and sipping on a glass of scotch. He had been starring at the top of the table for much of the night until he finally glanced up. When he did his eyes directed towards a blonde woman. Immediately he was curious. This woman wasn't the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen but at the same time, she was the beautiful woman he'd ever seen. He didn't know why, but she intrigued him. She was sitting with a couple of gentlemen and was talking to them. However her eyes weren't glazed over and she was sitting in a posture that didn't say she was willing the pretend she was interested in any attractive man that would talk to her. The idea of that made James' heart swell a little. He hadn't even talked to her ever but his heart was already racing. Nervously he stood up, he hadn't hit on a woman, ever. He walked across the room and for the first time in awhile he felt excitement. James began worrying about his appearance all of the sudden, he hadn't been too enthusiastic about the night so he didn't try to look good. He ran his hands through his hair and fixed the wrinkled collar on his shirt as best as he could as he approached her. As he got close she noticed him approaching and looked out the corner of her away, they became wide when she saw who was coming towards her. Swallowing hard, he came right up to her, "hello, my name is James."
She already knew that though, but his formality made her smile. "Hello my name is Jane."
They talked all night long and after that night they were inseparable. Jane was a writer too, but very lowkey compared to James. However, it was nice to have someone to relate to. Suddenly, feeling like nothing wasn't something he went through as much. The two got married spontaneously, even though the public disapproved greatly. The two of them didn't care though. She nurtured James and he found a way to write again, and he finally found himself.

MSU Reflection

  • I met a girl named Jasmine and a girl named Hannah, they were both very kind.
  • I learned how strenuous a school day in China is. They also told me about how they lived in China for most of their lives. Jasmine wants to learn a lot of different languages but she didn't quite know what she wanted to do. Hannah wanted to major in wine making and hopefully when she finished college she could move to California and work at a vineyard.
  • I told them about my experiences in high school and I told them how I love to play music which they thought was amazing.
  • I told them about a lot of our achievements and our high standards of excellence.
  • They asked why we have such short lunch breaks and wondered why we had such a broad amount of subjects.
  • It was such an amazing experience meeting new people from China. I had a lot of fun showing them around.
  • I would have wanted to know more about their own experiences with high school and maybe things they'd want to do with their lives.
